Racine County is widely recognized as having outstanding schools. Many innovative statewide models have been developed in the county's school districts. From day care through high school graduation, schools within Racine County offer academic excellence, an array of extra-curricular and sports activities, and a group of dedicated teachers.
Residents of Racine County are fortunate to choose from numerous award-winning, nationally recognized educational facilities. The Racine Unified School District is the largest district in the county, including the entire area east of Interstate 94, and made up of city, suburban and rural areas. Racine Public Schools offer a variety of alternatives in education including progressive academic programs, alternative academic programs, computer immersion programs and year round school. In addition, residents have access to a wide assortment of private schools, including the Prairie School, an independent school for preschool through grade 12, which has a diverse student body and a college preparatory curriculum.
The following is a summary of the public school districts in Racine County:
Racine Unified School District
The District achieves above national test score averages on standardized tests and on both SAT and ACT tests, with significantly higher scores in math. Over 70 percent of the high school graduates indicate that they attend a post-secondary institution.
College bound students may enroll in advanced placement or International Baccalaureate courses. Remedial education and programs for the gifted and talented are offered in K-12. The District maintains a strong, continuing relationship with the business community through the Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce Education Committee.
Burlington Area School District
The Burlington Area School District consists of five elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and two high schools. These schools serve Burlington and the surrounding area.
The District is best known for the first “shopping mall” school in the state. The intermediate school serves 4th, 5th, and 6th graders providing students and parents four different learning programs. The first technique is the self-contained classroom, the student remains with the same teacher. Students may choose to switch among three different teachers which is knows as departmentalized. The third technique, looping, provides one group of teachers for the child to stay with for two years. Lastly, an individualized, self-paced learning method is offered known as Montessori.
The Burlington Area School District continues to offer effective educational programs providing students with the knowledge and skills to succeed and prosper in today’s society.

Union Grove Elementary School
Joint School District 1 strives to provide the highest educational opportunities to residents of Union Grove and surrounding areas. The district’s mission is to educate and empower every student to be a life-long learner. In pursuit of this mission, Joint School District 1 will provide a positive and safe learning environment while delivering an all-inclusive educational program. The district continues to be dedicated in providing an everlasting superior education.

Waterford Union High School District
Residents of Waterford and nearby communities have an opportunity to attend outstanding facilities within Waterford Graded District 1, Washington-Caldwell District and Waterford Union High School District. The schools follow a traditional curriculum offering students high quality instruction, opportunities for advanced studies, creative exploration and extra-curricular activities in a nurturing educational setting with a standard academic calendar.
Waterford Union High School enrolls approximately 900 students. Waterford offers advanced placement classes in foreign language, math, and English. Students at Waterford have traditionally scored above the national and state levels in standardized tests.
Washington-Caldwell School District
The Washington-Caldwell School District is a conservative, small school setting where instructors and staff provide opportunities to empower students to become life-long learners in an environment that values respect and cooperation, encourages curiosity, and promotes creative and critical thinking through challenging activities.
Dover District 1, Kansasville Elementary
This elementary school serves residents of Dover and surrounding communities.
Raymond School
This elementary school serves residents of Raymond and surrounding areas.
Yorkville Joint School District #2
The Yorkville School District is a K-8 district, one of only 13 in Wisconsin. Children of Yorkville and surrounding communities attend this school. |

The Racine Unified School District serves over 21,000 students living in the eastern half of Racine County with 21 elementary schools, 6 middles schools, and 4 senior high schools. The district provides educational choices for students at every level including three elementary magnet schools, a year-round elementary school, a magnet middle/high school, two charter schools, a middle school/high school alternative center and a Fresh Start Program.
